Reveries Of A Child Wife

Illuminating winter sunlight, forlorn snowflakes glistening starry bright. Milky white turn the meadows and the barren trunks. The grasshopper clacks and buzzes in search of  an utopian land where Spring never ceases to radiate its captivating charm. Look at that Liverpool schoolboy. Pretension of an abdominal ache failed to elude the mother’s eye. Dispirited, he opts for the least favored path of academia. The bus jolts and those tiny fingers are almost within the grip of frost bite; but hey! With an extra pair of gloves and a munchkin smile, there she is! To vanquish his plight :) While the Liverpool little one’s school amour makes headway, my over the phone chatter with mom just comes to an end. As one of my most salivated Chicken recipes of hers comes out of the bag, there tinkles my reminder bell! Yepppiiiii!!! The man you share your life with is just a few hours away from you. 'This week  flew quicker than I ever knew' -  murmurs the arctic gust. As a temporary confessional salvation of my aesthetic self, I hereby state - renouncing most of the scenic pleasures during the weekends, my Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are consumed only and only with the unstoppable lens following us…Oh, how those pictures and videos more or less encapsulate all those hugs, snuggles, kisses and sighs before Monday approaches. As though, my power of intention joins hands with my utter contempt to keep the chauffeur at bay. Alas! Likewise the Liverpool school toddler, I fail to bribe and beat time. With eyes wide open, reality engulfs me and my checklist of desires that revolves around this single soul who means everything to me. Ooops Desires! Burning like fireflies! Can't they come true before Thursday evening? :) Oh wait! The cab driver is already here with a placard of punctuality to drop my husband at the airport. Ironically, the flight to Toronto surely wouldn’t budge an inch from taking off on its scheduled time. Phew! The delayed return doesn't perturb my man anymore or fail to amuse him either. More often than not it entices me to burgle into the technically bizarre navigator’s excuse zone and turn the entire Air Traffic Control into a pseudo Aladdin with that one extra wish on his lamp that could bring my man back to me in a blink :)
I lay my head on his chest trying to treasure the rhythm of his heartbeat, the way he holds me, kisses me on the head, his laughter and his perfume. Sooner or later it’s the beep of his text on my phone. He is at the boarding gate. Huhh! My catnap stealer! Ruthless technology – knocks me down in disillusionment – Sigh…I pillowed my head on a mare feathery cradle. Where are those gentle hands holding mine and not wanting to let go even for a microsecond? Brushing my lips away briskly against his to utter “I love You” fifty times a day and still questioning whether I have said it enough :)
Ahh well, at some point during almost every Wednesday reverie, the woman of the house suddenly trips and falls, stumbling helplessly over something ridiculous like a leaf in Adam and Eve’s orchard. Just in the nick of time the man of the house appears all armored as the Medieval Knight of Honor to save her or is clumsily pulled down along with her through the hedge. That event predictably leads to the magical moment of a passionate smooch. Please. I fall ALL the time. Not in his arms, but on a soft expanse right from the warm bed. What a quivering rise to a buoyant morning. Thanks to that celestial body who invented Thursdays. I don’t always have a ticket to avail the time machine and return to his cuddles :)

Ode To My First Winter In The States

Wintry afternoons, I love thy nippy apparition that Sets me Free and Wandering…
A handful of sky I try…To Befriend, to Conquer….Yet thou Refuse me power unwavering.
Frosted chimneys, the Liverpool schoolboy, mounting snow heaps and my unfounded joy…
Like snow white feathers Perch High in anticipation…
Trespassing deer cubs enraged in hunger, Abandon the woods to Fathom deception.
There Come January nights, frigid and desolate…
Aaah! Do you Hear those creaking claws nearing to Devastate?
Time to Retire into a lost pastoral charm and idyllic childhood…
Nostalgia Throws in a good measure for my contemplative mood.
Behold that small brook overhung with copse and underwood Running through…
Surrounding with tied cottages, I Traverse back where our Love Grew.
It Formed the most Romantic and Sylvan walk of the year,
Your comeback is the only healing aid that Elevates me from worldly fear! :)

My letter to Santa

I think as you grow older, your Christmas wish list gets shorter. Because the things you want really can't be bought :) Here's my letter to Santa after a lapse of almost twenty years and a humble attempt to request my favorite Mr. Clause that his mystical visit this Christmas Eve turns out to be a little more special. So is for me and Mr. Vasu Mallik - the newly weds :) I just can't wait to put out some hot chocolate and apple-cinnamon cookies for my old friend to arrive from a distant land after a long long travel. Now that I am so elaborately arranging for his mid night refreshments and not going miser on my choice of cup cakes worrying over his sweet tooth facing the typical age old problem of enamel erosion, I am sure a full tummy will help him do wonders in what he is best at! I would like to see how he sprinkles some magic all over us with his invisible wand :)

Dearest Santa,

I trust you had a safe and trouble free journey through the New Durham Roads and it wasn't much of a struggle for you to find my new address. From maiden name to my parental home you see! It's all about changes :D I believe Mrs. Clause and all of your Elves are doing absolutely great! Lemme go back in time to tell you that your identity was revealed to me in a book. The book was written for people three times my age then, but I read it because it had the word Christmas on the cover and I loved Christmas more than anything. Believing in you until I was 11 is pretty good, I think -- it's better than most of the midget book worms of my time :p I would truly like to go a bit verbose on how much I admire you for being such an adorable hunny bunny who pays no heed to shed off those extra kilos in the gym-treadmills and ah! Those heavy weight lifters and the size-zero maniac dietary solution - sounds kinda weird but I salute you for not hinging on any artificial support system to ensure a stereotyped undernourished rather than beautifully carved body. No liposuction, no botox and no random blundered correction/expansion of those 'pouts' landing up in a pseudo-real world of quack quack ducklings from the 'b' town like ours who desperately tend to collide in the world of normal looking cricketers inviting intermittent distraction for them and a possibly gradual deformity for the entire team :p I would also like to thank you for demonstrating to the world that old people can be fit and determined enough to toil at earning their livelihood instead of lining up in an over populated country's streets with a new born in the arms and a penny bank jingling for more and more effortless collection at every red light! Your sliding down chimneys and lugging heavy bags filled with toys make it evident that you are the only source of inspiration and cheer to the world that is otherwise burgeoning under numerous unresolved issues making life tougher with each passing day.

Santa Claus, did you know that I thought you were some kind of male (bigger) version of a beautiful little nymph? Did you know you were so important to me when I was lonely and gazed at the stars? You were proof that miracle existed, and that some day fairies would come and take me to their land. Soon I was disillusioned with every birthday of mine knocking on the doors that I was actually trapped in the dull, unimaginative land of humans, and you were my bridge back to the Fairy Realm. Since you have faded from my life I apprehend that I would become as jaded and insensitive as the world around me with the tide of time. In the passing years, I have held onto my honesty and kindness whenever I thought of you, the reindeer and your jingle bells all the way. Do you still have all my letters? Do you still have those scrawled notes signed, "I love you"? Santa, those letters encompassed my heart and soul, my dearest desires. Nesting dolls as always, plush toys for zillion times, video games, real bunnies and one each massive oh-so-real wall poster of Akshay Kumar and Sylvester Stallone that will lemme have these two celebs as my lifetime heroes emerging and the pressure of my maths homework disappearing in the air :D

Every year I asked for something different, some odd, little thing I wanted more than anything in the world. But with my growing knowledge and disinterest in war, politics and socio-religious differences one thing never changed and remained stable. I asked for world peace at the end of each letter. I didn't know what that meant, of course. Maybe just an end to those terror attacks for a little bit, not that I knew what that meant either. It was a vague little prayer to the only God I knew. Now that I tried my bit by showing some humane gestures - last month in Canada when I came across a poor orphaned dog and his homeless master in the snow - you can have a glance at many more similar steps towards being generous and an altogether better Ushasi on my this year's track record, here's my not-so lengthy list of appeals to you till 2015 December.

I want love in abundance for all. Love, that never faces a scarcity. I would love to see people respecting themselves enough to treat others as they would wish to be treated. I want all hypocrites in disguise of power thirsty political and spiritual leaders to start getting extinct. The brooms used in the Swachh Bharat photo-ops - if you have taken a close look at that! They are in such good condition; never been used before nor used after the last photographer slinks away. Could you look into many of our common plight of bearing with celluloid heroes with those horrible eight pack abs and trying to bag roles for themselves wherein they would dance around trees like a sweet sixteen lad - fly down from the jets like those action demi Gods of 'Avengers', sooner or later will be seen with glycerin drops rolling down their less masculine jawline with a cheesy climactic dialogue - I would plead you to do something about the media sources yelling out loud every day of assaults against women's dignity, cold blooded murders over property inheritance and child abusers! Can we help the state governments and above all the justice of Jesus to  subject these cannibals dwelling in human civilization to doubly stricter and if need be crude punishments? I would want you to gift TOY guns to all those who LOVE guns and replace their real ones with the fakes.  Yes. All over the world!  For without gun and ammos people will have to resort to knife fights instead if they are allowed to pick up any from the kitchen! Oh and get rid of all the nasty explosives too. I ask for the poor that you make a permanent home for them where ever they are. I would love to have no debt and no black money. I would pray to you to assist people to regain sanity and take an early retirement from drugs and smuggling, quickly slip into looking out for some form of employment. I would want everyone to work and need I ask some of your elves to send out some work when they get too busy? I guess even you outsource in this economy my dearest chubby-cheeks! :* and a fair amount of equality won't be a bad deal to exist amongst all strata if not in their style and clothing but when it comes to a two square meal and a medical insurance.

I would love to have a world where politics or religiosity actually don’t matter or divide people. I would love to have people who DON’T believe in God to NOT attack and destroy the faith of those that do.

I would love to LIVE in the real world than in a house of cards and would wish people didn't get married over the internet and later cheated on so much more than only the deceptive appearance ;) I wish the elite class didn't become DINKS (Double Income No KidS) and waste time over fighting a case in an extra marital relationship. I wish the parents had more time for their children and didn't necessarily put the grannies in the hospice:( I really appreciate and would remain obliged to you for making life in itself a joy ride for every new born to reach this earth. And to top it all - there should be no more repetition in History of a kindergarten goer to go through a blood curdling experience or worse - end up in an untimely demise in the hands of those traitors to mankind. It's heart breaking you see - to have the mothers on my TV screen mourn and regret the decision of sending their little ones to school :( I have all the confidence in your healing power that you'll let love spill over everywhere and clear off the darkness that enemies and their hatred has cast. Do you know you are that little bit of God in all of us? That certain, peculiar, indescribable feeling that peace and GOOD will be bestowed on all? You are preserved in wax-marks, in the mysterious runes of children asking for puppies and kittens. You usher in the hope for world peace. You are saved inside the part of the brain that retains childhood memories, unfiltered, bathed in acute nostalgia. You are hope in its purest state. What prayer is more honest than a letter to you? No doctrine, no choir, no mythology -- just quiet prayer and love. Leaving your aura behind, puh-leeze make it a really very Merry Christmas Eve and for the heaven's sake no officials calls for the man of the house today! ;) I want his full time for next one week starting from the kitchen to the laundry, last but not the least -  would want him to be a silent spectator while I paint my nails and prioritizing over straining his eyes on the cathode-ray-tube!

So Here I go for my first ever trial in baking a Christmas cake as the lady of the house and hopefully it'll come out nice to add to the palatal pleasures of a highly indulgent calorific holiday! :D

XOXO,
a child-at-heart thirty something fan of yours :* :)
